With the increase in CRB damage across certain areas of Hawaiʻi, the need for effective treatments for infested palms is growing. Although we do not regulate commercial treatments, we strongly advise the public to be cautious when purchasing products, as some may not effectively address CRB issues. It’s also important to know that treatments are most effective when done to all palms in the area on a large, neighborhood scale and combined with green waste management. Most treatments kill the beetles that are feeding on the palms so increased palm health can be seen when local populations are suppressed.
It's important to note that not every possible treatment has been researched so there could be other effective products that we are not aware of. While we do our best to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information, the decision to use treatments with limited research is ultimately up to the consumer, who must evaluate the risks involved.
If you're looking for more information on treatments tested in Hawaiʻi, visit our treatments or research pages on our website. We also welcome any questions or clarifications from the community before making treatment decisions. Our team is currently putting together a list of trained organizations offering treatments, and we will share it on our website as soon as possible. In the meantime, please ensure the products you're considering have proven efficacy.
When looking for businesses to hire, we recommend hiring businesses with a history of pest control or landscaping, certified arborists or pesticide applicators, as well as companies that offer different products from different manufacturers. Don’t hesitate to contact us at info@crbhawaii.org before deciding what treatment to use or business to hire.
If you are a business that offers treatment for CRB please reach out to us. If your treatments aligns with our recommendations we will add you to our list.
